Frustration...the power supply for the digital camera was fried! I had left it on the floor several days ago, and while I was out the rain flooded the basement and shorted it out. After being sent from dealer to agent to importer I finally tracked down a replacement. Two lessons...don't let electrical things get wet ("doh!"), and consider cameras with conventional batteries (AA) when travelling! Downtown to visit my painter mate Adrian Jackman in his studio. Watched a rugby game in a pub together.
