September 1999 Folks, The summer break is almost over - I´m sipping beer in the regular spot, late Sunday afternoon, and the last rays of sunlight are on the first golden leaves on the one tree in the "bomb-crater" across the street. The break in teaching means that the "Tragic Women" project is almost complete. Hopefully I´ll get to Hungary in November for the opening. Lots to do in the next month: printing, the permit to renew, and a new flat to find, apart from the teaching which kicks in tomorrow. The Konica Hexar has lived up to expectations - a really superb lens, and believe me, Leicas sound like machine guns compared to this thing´s shutter!. But if there´s one thing that this town needs, it´s a "Photographers Warehouse": I had been ordering Tri-X from the "west", but have given in and now use TMAX. A photographer friend says, "hey, this used to be the GDR you know!" - well, not that much has changed; they still stand in line and say, "Yes sir, three bags full sir"! Anyway, on the subject of reality, this is a picture of silk-bellied Jana, who is bringing me another beer...the sun has almost set...I´m getting a haircut tomorrow, and there´s work to do. Cheers, Dean
