Dear PMers,
February in Germany - we should be in the grip of winter, but it simply hasnīt arrived (yet?). Mostly itīs just a bit wet and a bit cold (Norsewear socks appeared on my birthday - thanks Mum). I had planned a winter landscape series which might have to wait till next winter now. This may turn out to be the warmest winter on record here.
At the moment Iīm quite busy with a "Workers" series, at a big German railway crane factory (oddly, itīs the factory I live in!). The Kirow company has established a tradition of supporting artists - not only have they given me a room, and complete freedom to make portraits of their employees (those who remained after the end of the GDR), they have also sponsored my project rather generously. Last week I spotted a large Rauschenberg work in the office foyer, apparently commissioned by the company (canīt imagine what they paid for that!).
Seen several excellent shows recently: Tina Barneyīs candid family photographs in huge colour, and a group show of some of the worldīs best figure photographers including Jan Saudek and Jean-Loup Sieff.
Two more invitations and a deal for a calender have surfaced in the last week.
April in Prague...
