May 2000 Writing midway through a quick tour. Back briefly in Leipzig from a few days in Budapest after my group show opening night in Sombathely...a city in the east of Hungary...reputedly the most important modern art gallery in Hungary. (This show should come to Germany in September. Also received a possible show offer in Krakow...to be confirmed later). Still a bit bemused by the techno-party the gallery held after opening speeches were dispensed with - maybe itīs a Hungarian thing! Discovered itīs Photography Month in Budapest...almost every gallery is showing something...from Rodschenko to reportage. And the National Fine Arts Gallery kept me pretty well occupied and stunned...no idea how much stuff they had. Found enough time up my sleeve to pop up to Berlin last night to check out a show by a Russian photographer, Boris Savelev, of people waiting to leave or get somewhere...bus stops, train stations, and misery (man after my own heart???). In a couple of hours Iīm off to Prague (again!) where I hope to run into a few Czech photographers, not to mention a dose of "pivo" (nothing I need see a doctor about!)...and then itīs back to work, and experimenting with my new panoramic "Horizon"...a new way of looking and thinking could result out of all this. Anyway, itīs Summer now...and the girl on the piano isnīt really dead! Dean
