Dear readers,
A quiet Monday morning, disturbed only by the ubiquitous swarms of construction workers, reading the English newspapers in a downtown cafe...while the rest of Germany seems to be on holiday and complaining about the waning Summer.
Despite the air of calm, it´s been an interesting month here in Leipzig: a week-long Bach festival to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of the man who lay in an unmarked grave for almost 150 of those years. I heard that we were visited by a 70-strong Bach Cantata Choir from Auckland, but unfortunately I wasn´t able to attend...also, the world´s biggest hot-air balloon festival, and a Tina Turner concert (yeah, missed those too!)
In the pic is another claim-to-fame: the Leipzig train station...26 platforms make this apparently the world´s biggest "head" station. Recently refurbished to also house one of the largest shopping malls in Germany, which is conveniently (unusual!) open on Sundays.
Saw an excellent Man Ray exhibition in Frankfurt, and suggest you check out James Nachtwey´s new book "Inferno" (interesting review can be found at www.digitaljournalist.org)
err...recovering from the housewarming party (held a mere 10 months after moving into the factory we call home). The only casualty being a window after two Americans decided to play baseball in the corridor at 2 a.m...
...nothing else to report at the moment.
