April 2000
Dear PM
"Spring has sprung"...and coffee tables are bursting out all over the pavements. Spied these on my way to the darkroom one afternoon...the first of the season, and couldnīt resist dallying with a newspaper to peruse the state of the world, not to mention the parade of shortening skirts...consequently the printing session was deleted from the schedule!
Holiday!!!...yes, at the end of April Iīve got ten days off to travel to Hungary to attend my groupīs show debut, and then to Prague, before starting on my next Leipzig project.
The plan is to follow up my "Work in Progress" show with further tightly defined themes which constitute what appears to me to be unique and significant here: namely, the changes the east has been going through since reunification, and how this relates to our view of the world in terms of our social, cultural, economic and environmental responsibilities.
So, one of the next projects may deal with cityscapes, specifically the industrial areas. I live in what was once the largest industrial centre in Europe, but is now a blighted crater of ruins, with modern industries rising (slowly) out of the ashes on the outskirts. The contrast is dramatic. I am considering a panoramic camera, maybe large format, for this...but, thereīs time to pause and think just now.
