Tuesday, 25th April - War Memorial in the rain
ANZAC Day...the Dawn Parade. This very solomn ceremony is held every year, starting before sunrise, to remember the New Zealand and Australian soldiers who fought and died together in wars around the world. "Lest we forget". 20,000 people attended this event in Auckland, despite heavy rain. One veteran, after leading the parade of his comrades to the monument, collapsed and died of heart failure while standing at attention during the playing of "The Last Post".
It rained so hard this morning that it took quite a long time for daylight to appear!
