March 1999
Hi everyone
Still uncovering lots of new stuff, inspiration and ideas here.
Next exhibition, sponsored by the city government, is from my Dominion Road work.
Working on a number of new projects and hope to show these later.
A significant impression is the support given to artists (including myself), perhaps as a result of its illustrious history and the legacy left by its former inhabitants (Goethe wrote "Faust" while living here, and described Leipzig as a "little Paris").
A hint then to our beleaguered art funders in the words of the state governmentīs president: "art, music, culture altogether is not only a moving aesthetic of life, but always a public matter - something whole having an effect beyond its usual sphere." e.g. today I was offered living space in a disused part of a factory with a number of other artists by an industry.
Have to go now to print pix of one of Leipzigīs famously beautiful girls - itīs a tough job but someoneīs got to do it.
Many thanks to my supporters, both here and at home.
Dean
P.S. To Francois Maritz - I did what you suggested in Paris!
